The BMW M5 G90/G99 platform offers enormous tuning potential. That is why we provide a wide range of upgrade and tuning options for the latest generation BMW M5. In addition to software optimizations (ECU tuning), we often recommend combining these with exhaust system modifications for the best overall results.

From factory, the BMW M5 is equipped with six catalytic converters and two OPF filters, which restrict both sound and performance. By optimizing the exhaust system, a significant increase in power is achieved, along with a deeper exhaust note and a noticeably more engaging driving experience. The most popular configuration for the M5 is a combination of ECU remapping and an OPF delete. This setup delivers immediately noticeable improvements in power, throttle response, and overall driving dynamics. For those seeking even more performance, we also offer performance downpipes, which ensure an even more efficient exhaust gas flow and additional power gains.

For those looking to go even further, we are currently developing larger turbochargers and optimized charge coolers, specifically designed for the BMW M5, to further increase performance levels. In order to modify the software, the ECU must first be unlocked.

Since June 2020, BMW/Bosch has updated the ECU security (locked units). As a result, the M5 can no longer be tuned in the conventional way; the ECU protection must first be removed. The company providing this service is based in Finland and performs the procedure exclusively on-site. Through our partnership with this company, Mosselman is able to unlock your ECU and subsequently tune it with our Mosselman software (ECU remapping). If you are interested in an OPF delete for a sportier exhaust sound but do not require ECU tuning, this is also possible. In this case, the ECU does not need to be unlocked; the required modifications can be coded directly into the software.

The ECU unlocking process takes approximately 4 to 5 days in total, during which the vehicle remains in our workshop. If we send the ECU out on a Monday, the car is often ready and fully tuned by Friday. We have already successfully tuned many vehicles using this method. The ECU unlock is a permanent solution and cannot be reversed by any (remote) BMW software update. In addition, the process is purely software-based; the ECU is not physically opened, ensuring a reliable solution.

With an ECU remap, also known as “chip tuning” or “reflash”, the original ECU of the car will be recalibrated on several different engine parameters for more performance. Options like speed limiter removal and start/stop deactivation are available. Please note that an ECU remap will void the factory warranty once detected by a BMW dealer.

The ECU remap will take your BMW M5 G90/G99 to approximately 900 hp and 1100 Nm on premium fuel (98 Oct EU/ 93 Oct USA), which is highly recommended. These numbers are indications and depend on the current state of the car and the used fuel.

These models are equipped with an OPF filter and two catalytic converters in the central section of the exhaust system. This results in restrictions within the exhaust flow, leading to limited sound and driving engagement. With this Stage 1+ package, we install an ECU remap and replace the midsection of the exhaust system with a midpipe without an OPF filter. This improves exhaust gas flow, resulting in better performance and a fuller, more aggressive exhaust note (making the car louder).

We never remove just the filter itself; instead, we always replace the entire midsection of the exhaust. This allows the vehicle to be easily returned to stock at any time by reinstalling the original midpipe. Please note that the OPF-delete can cause problems due to the road regulations in your country.

With the Stage 1+ package, we can achieve output of approximately 950 hp & 1175 Nm on premium fuel (98 Oct EU/ 93 Oct USA), which is highly recommended.

The downpipes are the first section of the exhaust system after the turbochargers, where the catalytic converters are originally located. In the Stage 2 package, these are replaced with downpipes featuring sport catalytic converters or with catless versions for improved airflow. The benefit of this upgrade is a further increase in power and a change in exhaust sound. The car becomes slightly louder, but not as loud as with a Stage 1+ setup.

With sport cat downpipes, there is an 80–90% chance that the vehicle will still pass an emissions inspection (APK) in The Netherlands. When using catless downpipes, the car no longer meets emissions requirements, meaning the downpipes will likely need to be swapped back for inspection purposes. Please note that the downpipes can cause problems due to the road regulations in your country.

With the Stage 2 package, we can achieve output of approximately 950 hp & 1175 Nm on premium fuel (98 Oct EU/ 93 Oct USA), which is highly recommended.
