ECU Unlock BMW 2020+
New: From now on, we can perform the ECU unlock completely in-house*
Since June 2020, BMW/Bosch has modified the security on its ECUs (they are locked). As a result, cars produced from this month onward cannot be tuned in the conventional way; the ECU’s security must first be removed.
As of now, we can perform the ECU unlock completely in-house, meaning that in almost all cases it is no longer necessary to send the ECU away. This has a positive impact on turnaround time, and in many cases the work can be completed within one day. The ECU unlock costs €250 excluding VAT -> €302.50 including VAT.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to unlock the ECU internally on the BMW M5 G90/G99 models. We perform the unlocks for these cars in cooperation with our partner Femto. This company is based in Finland and performs the unlock exclusively at its own facility. Because Mosselman works in partnership with this company, we are able to have your ECU unlocked and then tune it using our Mosselman software (chip tuning). This page provides an update on how the process works.
Procedure
You bring your car to us, and we send the ECU to our partner. They remove the read/write protection and send the ECU back to us. We then reinstall the ECU and can equip your car with our Mosselman remap (chip tuning). The entire process takes approximately 4–7 days. During this period, the car remains at our workshop. We have already successfully tuned many cars this way, and we often achieve a turnaround time of 4–5 days. If we ship the ECU on a Monday, we can often have the car fully tuned and ready by Friday.
Cost
The cost of unlocking a BMW M5 G90/G99 is €800 excluding VAT -> €968 including VAT. The final total price for the tuning consists of the ECU unlock, the remap (chip tuning), and fine-tuning on the dyno (rolling road). Contact us for a quotation for your BMW.
Additional information
The ECUs are shipped insured via UPS, and so far we have not experienced any problems. Should any issues nevertheless arise, or should the ECU get lost, we will of course resolve this for you. It is important that the car’s software is not updated after the ECU unlock/tuning has been performed. Otherwise, the unlock/tuning will be overwritten.
